Kindle DX Vs. Global Kindle
The Differences:
The really obvious difference between the two Kindle wireless reading devices available for purchase at the moment is that one only works in America while the “Global Kindle” works in countries around the world. If you reside somewhere outside the USA (or if you’re an American who frequently travels to other countries) then that makes your choice quite clear; You have to purchase the Kindle with Global Wireless.
Besides that very important distinction, the obvious difference is that of size. The Kindle DX is far bigger as far it’s display size and it’s memory capabilities. It’s also much larger as far as it’s price.
The DX is 9.7 inches and the Global Kindle is 6 inches. The bigger screen is most helpful when reading a digital newspaper On the flip side, the smaller size of the regular version may make it more easy to take with you.
There’s also a substantial difference when it comes to memory size. The Kindle DX can hold over 3000 books, magazines, & newspapers while the other version can hold about 1,500 books. Although, who has more than 1,500 books?! I have a difficult time believing this huge amount of space to be necessary for most people.
Another difference is the auto-rotating screen that the DX has.
The Similarities:
They both can download from a selection of approximately 350,000 books, newspapers, and magazines which can usually be purchased for much lower prices than their paperback alternatives.
Both kindles have text to speech software which automatically turns any book into an “audio book.”
Neither of these reading devices will add to your monthly bills. The wireless service is provided much like the wireless service for GPS navigational systems.
They both have a basic web browswer that lets you surf the web wherever you are. It should be noted that this web browswer is meant for text based informational websites such as Wikipedia and blogs.
Both digital book readers have a “no glare” display that “reads like paper.” If you’re concerned that reading this will be similar to reading your computer screen then don’t be!
